Battle of the Drugstore Eyeliners

Don't know about anyone else but since I started wearing pencil eyeliner at the age of fourteen I haven't looked back. Unfortunately my Miss Sporty kohl eyeliner from back in the day doesn't cut it anymore, so I decided to try out six drugstore liquid eyeliners in the hunt to find a true black liquid eyeliner that dries matte.

The eyeliners I tried out ( going left to right in the above image) were: L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Eyeliner Ultra Precision in the shade black £6.49, L'Oreal Paris Superstar by Superliner in the shade black £6.99, Max Factor Masterpiece High Precision Liquid Eyeliner in the shade velvet black £8.99, Makeup Revolution Eyeliner Flick Thick & Thin £3.50, Maybelline Master Precise Curvy Eye Liner £7.99 and Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in the shade black £5.29.

Starting with the L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Eyeliner Ultra Precision, I bought this as it was a similar style to the Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner which was my go to before I started trying these different product out. Its more like a liquid pot with a sponge tipped applicator as opposed to a pen like the majority of eyeliners I tested. This is by far my favourite out of all these products as it is completely black and doesn't fade throughout the day. It takes slightly longer than some of the other ones to dry down matte as you can see in the swatches picture, where there was more product at the bottom it still looks wet, but it does dry down after a couple of minutes. The applicator is really thin which makes it perfect for doing winged eyeliner and the inner conner of you eye. For the price of this I was blown away by the product and the only negative of it taking longer to dry isn't a big problem.

Following on with another L'Oreal product is the Superstar by Superliner. I ordered this product off the boots website after Amy-Rose Walker recommended it in one of her tutorials. However when the product came I think it was an old version to what they're currently selling. The product I got was called Superstar by Superliner whereas the product I ordered was called Superliner Superstar and the packaging on mine was plain as opposed to the gold pattern on the one of their website. I have to admit I hadn't thought too much about it until I came to write this and I have searched Google for hours and can't find one with the same name as mine, so I'm still slightly confused as to what happened there. Anyway when it came to using the product I wasn't impressed with it at all. As you can see on my swatches the colour was more brown and it had hardly any colour pay off when I was applying it making it seem more like a grey colour. I found this hard to apply and that the colour was bleeding out. I'm not sure how this compares to the product on their website and I would hope that its an improved version and formula if what I received was an old one but if not I wouldn't waste your money on this eyeliner.

Next was the Max Factor Masterpiece High Precision, which I must admit I bought to bring my total up so I could get one of the free make up sets they were giving away at Christmas. The eyeliner was a pen applicator with a paddle shaped tip with the aim of creating both thin and thick lines with ease. However I found this applicator very hard to use as even when using it on its side I was still getting a thick line and the paddle shaped tip made it very difficult to draw a wing. The colour of the product was a lot better on my hand when I swatched it as I was able to apply more pressure than when I was putting it on my eyelids. The colour was black but didn't have much pigment and faded within a few hours. This was the most expensive eyeliner and it definitely wasn't worth it. After looking on the Boots website there is eight reviews and they're all 1 and 2 stars so I wished I'd looked this product up before buying it.

The next eyeliner is the Makeup Revolution Eyeliner Flick Thick & Thin which as you can probably see by the picture its an eyeliner I've already use quite a lot so it is a bit worn. This is an absolutely amazing eyeliner for the price. Its a pen style eyeliner with a thick and thin tip at opposite ends. In the swatches the top line in the thin side and the bottom is the thick. Theres not a lot of difference between the two but I think that was because I wasn't being as delicate as I would have been if I'd have put in on my eyelid. The colour is a good back and it lasts about eight hours before it starts fading ever so slightly but its not as true black as the Superline Eyeliner by L'Oreal. The only negative with this is it doesn't dry matte which for me personally means I can't use it when I'm putting eyelashes on.

Then we have the Maybelline Master Precise Curvy Eye Liner. This is definitely a gimmick, the product comes with a hour glass shaped applicator and you're meant to use different angles of the product for different parts of your eye. I found this applicator hard to use and was unable create a neat line. The applicator made my wing thick and I wasn't able to create a thin tip. As well as this it didn't last long at all. As you can see by the swatches it appears to be more of a brown and then fades into a grey when its been on the eye for a short period of time, it then went on to smudge all over my bottom lash line. I've read some good reviews on this but other than doing a simple line I don't see how this product could work.

Finally we have the Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner. This was my favourite eyeliner before I tested all of these out and still proves to be good despite being the second cheapest product. Its a ink pot and felt tip type applicator that applies very easily. The small brush is perfect for a winged look and that extra precision. The colour is very black and very matte, its extremely pigmented and blends in perfectly with false lashes. The only slight problem with this eyeliner is the longer you have it the quicker the product dries down so if you're new to eyeliner this probably isn't the best to start off with.

Let me know if there is any drugstore liquid eyeliners you would recommend.
